How Much Does a Memory Quilt Cost? A Real Breakdown

How Much Does a Memory Quilt Cost? A Real Breakdown

How Much Does a Memory Quilt Cost? (And What Goes Into the Price)

One of the questions I get *all the time* is:
“Okay but… how much does a memory quilt actually cost?”

And I get it—because this isn’t like grabbing a blanket off a shelf. It's incredibly personal with your life story now trusted with a stranger from the internet.

First—What You’re Really Paying For

A memory quilt isn’t just fabric sewn together.

It’s your dad’s flannels.
Your baby’s first outfits.
Your favorite concert tees you can’t let go of.

It’s the stuff that’s been sitting in a box because you *can’t* donate it—but you also don’t know what to do with it.

This gets it out of storage (or the back of the closet!) and turns it into something you can see everyday.

So… What Does It Cost?

My memory quilts typically fall somewhere in this range:

Small quilts:** $350-$500
Medium quilts:** $400–$650
Large quilts:** $800–$1,000+

Here’s what’s actually happening behind the scenes:

Clothes aren’t made for quilting.

They stretch, they’re worn in, sometimes delicate… and often very loved.

So before I even start sewing, I’m:

* Pressing everything
* Stabilizing stretchy fabrics (like t-shirts)
* Carefully cutting around logos, seams, or special details

This part alone takes *hours*.

Custom Designing:

This is one of my favorite parts—but it’s also where a lot of time goes.

I’m figuring out:

* What pieces should stand out
* How colors work together
* How to make everything feel balanced (not chaotic)

No two quilts are ever the same, which means there’s no “template” to just follow. Its a lot of arranging, re-arranging, client input, etc.

And Then… the Actual Quilting

Once everything is laid out, it still has to be:

* Sewn together
* Layered with batting and backing
* Topstitched (the stitching that holds it all together)
* Bound and finished

Depending on the size and detail, a quilt can take **10–40+ hours** from start to finish.

The Part That’s Hard to Put a Price On

You’re not sending me extra fabric.

You’re sending:

  • A loved one’s clothing
  • Baby outfits you remember like yesterday
  • Pieces that can’t be replaced

That means I’m handling everything with a lot of care and intention—because I know how much it matters.

If You're Thinking About One:

Here are a few things to consider...

  • How big you’d like your quilt to be
  • What clothing you want included
  • Whether you like a simple look or custom

And if you’re not sure? That’s totally okay—that’s what I’m here for. My email is always open for questions/comments/ideas.
